1. What is an excavator engine block?
The excavator engine block is the skeleton of the engine and serves as the assembly base for the crankshaft, connecting rod mechanism, valve train, and other major components of the engine systems.
The diesel engine cylinder block is a crucial component of your excavator engine, often overlooked until problems arise. Not only does it withstand the force of high-temperature, high-pressure gases, but almost all of the engine’s components are mounted on the cylinder block. Therefore, the cylinder block must have sufficient strength and rigidity to ensure the normal operation of the engine.
When the engine cylinder block is damaged, how should we repair it? Two simple steps will teach you how to repair the engine cylinder block.

2. How to repair a damaged engine cylinder block?
(1) Cylinder block deformation repair
Inspection method: Scrape all the liner materials on the surface of the cylinder block, and use a precision straightedge and a thickness gauge to measure whether there is any warpage on the surface contacted by the cylinder head liner. Place the straightedge on the upper plane of the cylinder block, and use the thickness gauge to measure the clearance between the straightedge and the upper plane of the cylinder.
Repair method: cylinder block unevenness is small, can be scraped repaired; unevenness is larger, can be milling process. But the amount of trimming shall not exceed 0.30mm; otherwise, the cylinder block should be replaced.
(2) Cylinder block crack repair
Inspection method: hydrostatic test of the cylinder block to check whether there are cracks. Inspection, the first according to the specified requirements of the cylinder head and cylinder block, and block the necessary water inlet and outlet channels, and then connected to the water compressor outlet pipe, the water temperature of 60-70 ℃, water pressure of 392kPa, duration of 3min, any part of the cylinder block shall not have leakage or wet phenomenon.
Repair method: generally use the welding method and the glue repair method.
